Blocked or Closed Vents
Furniture, curtains, or closed registers can starve parts of the house of return air. The system struggles to maintain pressure, and cooling drops. Make sure all supply and return vents are open and unobstructed.
Refrigerant and Coil Problems
Refrigerant is the medium that carries heat out of your home. Low refrigerant — usually from a leak — robs the system of its ability to cool. Ice on the evaporator coil is a telltale sign of this problem, because the coil gets so cold it freezes the moisture in the air rather than absorbing heat.
Refrigerant Leaks
Refrigerant does not get used up under normal operation. If the charge is low, something is leaking. You may hear a faint hissing sound near the indoor or outdoor unit. Dirty Evaporator or Condenser Coil

The contactor switches power to the compressor and fan motor. A worn contactor may click but fail to complete the circuit. The run capacitor provides the electrical boost the motor needs. A failed capacitor often shows visible swelling or leaking fluid.
