You cannot use PayPal Credit to fund a personal money transfer. PayPal Credit is a revolving line of credit issued by PayPal and is designed for shopping transactions, not for sending money to friends, family, or other accounts. When you send money through PayPal, the available funding sources are your PayPal balance, a linked bank account, a debit card, or a credit card — PayPal Credit is not listed among them.

How PayPal Credit Works

PayPal Credit lets you defer payment on qualifying purchases at online merchants that accept PayPal. It functions similarly to a credit card: you receive a credit limit, and you can pay over time or in full each month. However, this credit line stays within the PayPal ecosystem and cannot be withdrawn as cash or pushed out to another user's account.

What Happens If You Try

If you attempt to send money and select PayPal Credit as the funding source, the transaction will be declined or the option will not appear at all. PayPal's system validates funding sources before processing a transfer, and PayPal Credit does not pass that check for outbound sends.

Workarounds and Alternatives

• Link a credit or debit card: You can fund a transfer with a card added to your PayPal account, even if the underlying line of credit is from PayPal Credit.
• Use your PayPal balance: If you have received funds or added money manually, you can send from that balance.
• Withdraw to a bank account: Move PayPal funds to a linked bank account and initiate a transfer from there, if your PayPal Credit balance allows a transfer inward — but note that PayPal Credit itself does not support cash-out.

Fees and Limits to Watch

When you do send money using a supported funding source, be aware of fees for international transfers or instant transfers. Personal payments to friends and family within the same country are typically free when funded by a bank account or PayPal balance, but card-funded transfers may incur a fee.
