Carpal tunnel syndrome involves pressure on the median nerve within the wrist's bony tunnel. These issues respond best to activity modification, ergonomic adjustments, and targeted strengthening before they become chronic.

Diagnosing skeletal problems begins with medical history and physical exam. X-rays reveal fractures and degeneration. MRI scans show soft tissue and early bone injury. CT provides detailed bone geometry, while bone density scans (DEXA) measure osteoporosis risk. Blood tests can uncover mineral imbalances, inflammatory markers, or metabolic causes. Treatment ranges from immobilization and physical therapy to medications like bisphosphonates, biologics, or surgery including joint replacement and fracture fixation.
Prevention and Long-Term Skeletal Health
Protecting the skeleton starts with nutrition and movement. Weight-bearing exercise stimulates bone formation. Adequate calcium, vitamin D, and protein support remodeling. Avoiding tobacco and limiting alcohol reduce fracture risk. Fall prevention measures like balance training, home safety checks, and vision care are especially important for older adults. Routine screening for bone density allows early intervention before a first fracture changes the trajectory of skeletal health.
