How Do I Set Up Apple Pay

Setting up Apple Pay means adding a supported credit or debit card to the Wallet app on your iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch so you can pay with a tap or a glance. Once a card is added, you can use it in stores, within apps, and on websites that accept contactless payments.

Add a Card on iPhone

  • Open the Wallet app on your iPhone.
  • Tap the plus button (+) in the upper-right corner.
  • Follow the onscreen prompts to scan your card with the camera or enter the details manually.
  • Review the terms and tap Agree.
  • Complete your bank's verification, which may involve a text, call, or authentication in your banking app.
  • Once approved, tap Next to finish adding the card.
  • Set Up on iPad and Apple Watch

On iPad, go to Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay and tap Add Card. On Apple Watch, open the Watch app on your iPhone, tap the My Watch tab, select Wallet & Apple Pay, and choose Add Card. You can also add a card directly on the watch by opening the Wallet app and following the prompts.

    Using Apple Pay

In stores, hold your device near the contactless reader and authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode. In apps and on the web, select Apple Pay at checkout and confirm the payment. You can also send and receive money through Apple Pay Cash in Messages.

    Managing Cards and Limits

You can add multiple cards and choose a default card for faster checkout. To remove a card, open Wallet, tap the card, scroll to the bottom, and tap Remove Card. Transaction limits are set by your bank or card issuer, not by Apple, so check with your financial institution if a payment is declined.

    Supported Cards and Regions

Apple Pay works with most major credit and debit cards from banks and networks such as Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and UnionPay. Availability of specific cards and features like Apple Pay Cash varies by country and region, so check Apple's official support page for the latest details in your location.
