Check Your Eligibility
To apply for a USDA home loan, you must meet the agency's income and location requirements. The property must be in an eligible rural or suburban area, and your household income typically cannot exceed 115% of the area median income. You also need a reliable credit history and the ability to repay the loan.

Gather Your Documents
Before you start the application, collect proof of income, such as pay stubs, W-2 forms, and tax returns for the past two years. You will also need bank statements, proof of identity, and details about your debts. If you are self-employed, prepare additional documentation showing your earnings over the past two or three years.
Find an Approved Lender
USDA loans are issued through approved lenders, not directly by the government. Search for a lender that participates in the USDA loan program and submit your application through them. The lender will verify your information, order an appraisal, and guide you through underwriting.
Complete the Application and Underwriting
Fill out the loan application form provided by your lender. The underwriter will review your credit score, debt-to-income ratio, and the property's eligibility. If approved, you will receive a loan commitment, and the closing process can begin.
