How to Check Specs on a Computer
You can check your computer's specs directly from the operating system using built-in tools. On Windows, the System Information app and Settings page show CPU, RAM, and storage. On macOS, the About This Mac window gives the same overview. ChromeOS hides fewer details but still exposes core hardware in the Settings menu.

Check Specs on Windows
Press Win + R, type msinfo32, and press Enter to open System Information. The System Summary lists the processor, installed memory (RAM), and system model. For a quicker view, go to Settings > System > About, which shows the processor name, RAM amount, and device ID.
To see GPU and storage details, open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and click the Performance tab. The GPU section shows your graphics card name and dedicated video memory. Click Storage on the left to see total and used space for each drive.

Click the Apple menu and choose About This Mac. The overview window displays the chip name, memory, and serial number. Click System Report… for deeper hardware details, including the graphics card, storage controllers, and connected peripherals.
Check Specs on ChromeOS
Select the clock in the bottom-right corner, then click the gear icon to open Settings. Scroll to Device > About ChromeOS to see the processor, RAM, and storage. ChromeOS does not expose the GPU model in the same way, but the device name usually hints at the graphics tier.

Third-Party Tools for Deeper Checks
If the built-in tools leave gaps, free utilities fill them. CPU-Z reads detailed processor, cache, and motherboard data. Speccy gives a clean summary of all major components. On macOS, the free app System Information (not the Apple-built-in report) can surface GPU and sensor data more clearly than the default About window.
