Locate the Pilot Assembly

  • Turn the gas control valve to the OFF position and wait at least five minutes so any residual gas clears.

  • Press and hold the valve button or the pilot igniter button.
  • While holding the button, light the pilot using a match or the built-in igniter.
  • Hold the button for 30 to 60 seconds, then release slowly.
  • Listen for the main burner to ignite when the thermostat calls for heat.
  • If the Pilot Won't Stay Lit

    A pilot that goes out as soon as you release the button usually means the thermocouple is not sensing the flame. Check that the thermocouple tip is in the pilot flame and is not bent or sooty. If cleaning the tip with fine sandpaper does not help, the thermocouple may need replacement.
