- Room Seal: Keeping doors and windows closed while the filter runs prevents new dust from entering and lets the filter maintain a steady particle load.
Maintenance That Keeps Filters Effective
A room air filter for dust loses efficiency over time as the media fills with captured particles. Permanent electrostatic filters need washing every one to two weeks, depending on the environment. Disposable fiberglass or pleated filters should be replaced every one to three months. In high-dust spaces or homes with shedding pets, replacement intervals shorten. A clogged filter not only cleans less effectively but also forces the fan motor to work harder, shortening the unit's lifespan.
Placement and Usage Tips
Where you run the filter affects how well it clears dust. Position the unit in the room where you spend the most time, ideally away from walls so air can circulate freely. Keep the intake and outlet vents unobstructed. Running the filter continuously on a low or medium setting uses less energy and maintains more consistent dust levels than intermittent high-speed bursts.
