What Is a Chime Card?
A Chime card is a payment card issued by Chime Financial, a U.S. fintech company, and tied to either a Chime Spending Account or a Credit Builder Loan. The most common type is the Chime Visa Debit Card, which draws funds directly from your linked checking account, while the Chime Credit Builder Visa Credit Card is a small unsecured credit line designed to help build credit history.

How the Chime Debit Card Works
The Chime Debit Card is a Visa debit card that lets you spend the money already in your Chime Spending Account. You can use it for online purchases, in-store tap-to-pay, ATM withdrawals, and contactless payments through Apple Pay or Google Pay. Transactions are deducted immediately from your balance, and there are no monthly fees or minimum balance requirements to hold the card.
How the Chime Credit Builder Card Works
The Chime Credit Builder Visa Credit Card is a secured-style credit card where your credit limit is tied to the amount you hold in a secured savings account. You spend from a line of credit and make monthly payments, and Chime reports your activity to major credit bureaus. There are no annual fees, no interest charges if you pay on time, and no hard credit pull to open the account.
Key Features and Limits
- SpotMe: An optional overdraft service on the debit card that covers up to $200 in negative balances without traditional overdraft fees, based on direct deposit history.
- Mobile check deposit: Deposit checks via the Chime app and access funds after verification.
- Card controls: Lock or unlock your card, set spending alerts, and manage PINs from the mobile app.
Where and How to Use a Chime Card
Because both cards carry the Visa network logo, they work wherever Visa is accepted in the United States and typically abroad. ATM access is available through the Visa Plus Alliance network. You can order a replacement card or a temporary virtual card number from the app for online shopping when a physical card is not handy.
