How GPS Works
GPS relies on a constellation of at least 24 satellites orbiting the Earth. Each satellite continuously transmits signals containing its position and the exact time the signal was sent. A GPS receiver on the ground picks up these signals from multiple satellites and calculates its distance from each one. By triangulating these distances, the receiver pinpoints its exact location.
