The VinFast VF 8 will start at $42,200 when it goes on sale in the U.S., the VF 9 at $57,500.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\nWhile that approach has generated plenty of controversy, it works for Nguyen Khac Chung, one of the first customers. He took delivery of his VF 8 at the weekend ceremony, several months ahead of his original plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So far, VinFast has claims to have lined up 65,000 advance orders in Vietnam, the U.S. and other markets. Its goal is to be selling 750,000 annually by 2026 \u2014 about the time it hopes to open its new U.S. manufacturing complex. The facility, which could eventually cost as much as $6 billion, is targeted to have a production capacity of 150,000 EV SUVs annually. But VinFast also wants to produce electric buses at the site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
