Fans of Ford’s new Bronco forced to wait for its introduction due to a few delays are now seeing variations of the new model hit the road very quickly, starting with the Hennessy Performance Engineering’s take on the new 4×4: the VelociRaptor Bronco 400.
The Texas-based company is best known for its 1,817-horsepower Venom F5, which is always chasing some version of the “fastest car” title, but it also produces limited edition specialty versions of popular new vehicles, juicing up the power output as well as providing other upgrades necessitated by the increase in horsepower.
In the case of the new VelociRaptor 400 Bronco it takes the Bronco Wildrak and its 310-hp 2.7-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V-6 — already an upgrade from the regular Bronco at 270 hp — and adds 75 more horsepower and 88 more pound-feet of torque. The result is 405 bhp at 5,700 rpm and 503 lb-ft torque at 3,900 rpm.
“Whether you’re on- or off-road, more power is what our customers demand, and our VelociRaptor 400 Bronco really delivers!,” said John Hennessey, the company’s founder and CEO, in a statement. “The new Bronco is destined to be an icon and our customers want their Bronco to stand out with enhanced styling and, of course, more power!”
More power and performance
All of the upgrades to the motor, the VelociRaptor Bronco powers from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.9 seconds, which is probably helpful if an elk suddenly charges you while your off-roading — assuming your in a flat area.
However, Hennessey engineers also upgraded the already impressive Wildtrak off-road set up.
With Hennessey’s Off-Road Package, owners can individualize their Bronco further with 35-inch off-road tires on 18-inch Hennessey wheels; front and rear VelociRaptor bumpers; retractable side steps; and VelociRaptor branding.
Additionally, the Hennessey makes certain to retain all of the Bronco’s engine modes and off-road systems, while providing a 3-year / 36,000-mile warranty on the vehicle. It can be ordered in the two- or four-door version of the Bronco as well as with or without the soft top.
Production of the VelociRaptor 400 Bronco is limited to 200 units and it’s priced at about $80,000, which includes the Bronco Wildtrak that gets modified. The Hennessey VelociRaptor package upgrades are $24,950 installed.
